FIRST PROCESSING of the film and PREVENTING SHRINKAGE
24 hours of acclimating
Transparent window film can still stretch or shrink a bit. If there are many meters of film in the direction where it needs to be stretched, shrinkage may become a problem with temperature changes. If the sail remains stretched throughout the year, the film will stay at length and you will hardly notice any shrinkage.
Upon receipt: If you’ve received our window film, the material is freshly cut from the roll. Let it ‘acclimate’ for 24 hours so that the shrinkage or temperature changes can be processed by the film. Also, don’t forget our double-sided adhesive tape to place the film precisely on the fabric/sail. See the confection videos below.
After a longer period:
If the fabric has been rolled up for a long time, the film can still shrink slightly with temperature changes and must be re-stretched. This is not done by forcing the fabric to the original tension. Solution: Keep the fabric under tension so that it doesn’t shrink. So, do not leave it rolled up all summer. If this is not possible and you are storing it for winter, do the following: Make sure the sail is hung in a warm room for 24 hours so that the film becomes supple. Then, slowly stretch the sail to allow the film to expand.
Another practical remedy: Use a heater in a closed room to make the transparent film flexible, then slowly stretch it.
